For English speakers living in Israel

Israeli Accounting. In Plain English.

Israeli bookkeeping, tax filings, and business setup — explained clearly, and handled for you.

Itamar Highkin, CPA · Founder, Mas Tov Ltd

Israeli tax law doesn't come with an English translation, and most accountants don't either.

I handle the Israeli side of your finances from end to end — from opening the tax files you need and keeping your books current to tax filings, planning, and representation before the Israeli authorities when needed. If you already work with a U.S. tax professional, I coordinate directly with them so the Israeli and American sides stay aligned.

20 minutes. In English. Zero pressure.

Professional accounting services

Is this you?

You recently made aliyah and aren't sure where to start.
You freelance or run a business from Israel.
You earn income from both Israel and the U.S.
You got a letter from the Tax Authority or Bituach Leumi, and aren't sure what it actually means.
You have an American accountant, but need someone for the Israeli side.
You're not sure whether you've missed a filing, payment, or potential refund.

Here's what you get to skip

The parts of running a business here that trip up English speakers most — off your plate.

You don't have to become fluent in Israeli tax bureaucracy.

You don't need to learn the language of Israeli tax administration. I translate the forms, letters, and requirements into clear English — and tell you what needs action now and what can wait.

You don't have to find out about problems after it's too late.

A missed deadline or a Hebrew letter from the Tax Authority can turn into unnecessary stress. I track the deadlines and read the letters for you, then tell you plainly what's actually urgent.

What's actually included

Bookkeeping & compliance, handled monthly

Your books stay current every month, not reconstructed in a panic at year-end, and your VAT and Tax Authority reports go out filed correctly and on time. You get an actual picture of where your business stands, not just a pile of receipts.

Refunds and tax planning, so you keep what's yours

Some English-speaking clients may be entitled to tax refunds without realizing it. I check proactively for potential refunds and planning opportunities, while also helping you avoid unnecessary overpayments.

Representation before the authorities

If the Israeli Tax Authority or Bituach Leumi contacts you, you don't have to navigate the system or respond alone. I communicate with the authorities, explain what is needed, and represent you when required.

U.S.–Israel tax coordination

I can review your U.S. tax documents for coordination purposes and communicate directly with your American tax professional. I handle the Israeli side, helping ensure that decisions made in one country are considered properly in the other. It's a level of cross-border coordination that many Israeli accounting firms don't provide.

I was born and raised in Israel to American parents who made aliyah before I was born, so I grew up moving between Hebrew paperwork and English explanations. I built my practice to be the part of doing business in Israel that doesn't need a translator — including reading your 1040 and coordinating directly with your American accountant, so advice from the two countries doesn't collide.

Behind the scenes is my wife and partner, Shoshana Highkin, who runs the office and keeps the books current. Most of the day-to-day — documents, questions, reminders — goes through her.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to open a tax file in Israel?+

If you're earning self-employed or business income here, generally yes. Most salaried employees don't need to open one themselves. It depends on your specific situation — exactly the kind of thing we sort out on the free call.

Can you help if I already have a U.S. accountant?+

Yes — that's actually the most common setup. I handle the Israeli side, and I'm glad to join a call with your U.S. accountant directly so the advice from both sides lines up.

Do you prepare U.S. tax returns?+

No. I read your U.S. returns and coordinate with your American accountant on the Israeli side of things, but I don't prepare or file U.S. returns myself.

What should I bring to the first call?+

Nothing specific. Bring whatever you already have — prior filings, business records, a letter from the Tax Authority — and we'll figure out together what's actually needed.

Can you help with letters from the Israeli tax authorities?+

Yes. Reading a Tax Authority or Bituach Leumi letter, figuring out what's actually urgent, and responding on your behalf is one of the most common things I do.

How are your services priced?+

It depends on your situation, business type, volume, and what you actually need. Figuring out the right scope and price is part of what we do on the free call, so you leave knowing exactly what it costs, not guessing.

Translated from the Hebrew blog, so you don't have to.
Many Israelis who also hold U.S. citizenship don't realize how much it affects their financial life here. What actually changes, and what to watch for.
If you're employed in Israel, there's a good chance you're paying more tax than you need to. This is the reason, and most people never fully understand it.
